You can get your blood pressure measurements through various measuring devices. The easiest to use are the digital blood pressure monitors or the electronic blood pressure monitors. These are convenient to use and saves you from frequent visits to the doctor. Even if you are not used to checking your own blood pressure, you will find these digital monitors easy to use! With digital blood pressure monitors, you can check your blood pressure regularly and keep a record of all the readings for your next visit to the physician.

These blood pressure monitors come with automatic or manual cuffs and you can view the reading on a built-in LCD screen. You could even opt for finger or wrist blood pressure monitors which come with self-inflating cuffs that inflate once you turn the device on and secure the cuff. Digital monitors are high on reliability and accuracy as well and most of these offer digital readouts of your reading. This makes them a wonderful device for those who have difficulty in hearing or have poor vision.

These devices can also detect blood surges under the cuff of the monitor. Built with your convenience on mind, most of these digital blood pressure monitors include paper print outs, these really come in handy at your next doctor's visit.
When purchasing a digital monitor, make sure you check for the size and the location of the cuff so as to determine the accuracy of the device. You can check the reliability of a blood pressure monitor by comparing the reading on it to the reading from a professional blood pressure monitoring device. In addition to this, make sure you check your digital monitor for accuracy at least once a year before further usage.

I have a history of diabetes and heart problems in my family so, when it comes to staying in shape, I go out of my way to employ the best equipment to make sure I'm doing the job right.

The Omron Body Fat Analyzer (model # HBF-306C) was given to me as an incentive through my insurance company's rewards program. When I first received it, I didn't think it was going to be very accurate but, later on, when I had my annual exam and they did the same test, I learned it was right on target and now it's something I use on a regular basis.

The body fat analyzer is easy to use. You hold it in your hands and press the start button. It takes about 7 seconds and it returns a reading. It's quick, it's painless and it gives me a better picture of how well my exercise routine is working than what I would get if I just relied on my bathroom scale.

The analyzer works similar to the tests a doctor might run. When you're holding the device, it sends a weak electrical current into your body and measures how long it takes to go through your body. I have used the analyzer several times and have yet to feel anything from that current. It's actually a bit similar to a scale I once owned. Only that scale required me to have wet feet for it to work properly and the readings weren't very accurate. The Omron analyzer is also small enough and light enough to be stored on a shelf or in your closet when you're not using it.

One thing I like about the Omron Body Fat Analyzer is the fact it not only measures my body fat, it records it for me too. Plus, it has enough memory to record data for nine other people; even though my wife is the only other one who uses it.

Omron also recognizes that every person is different and has programmed their analyzer to take a person's daily exercise routine into account. You program the analyzer on a scale of 1 through 5 based on the number of days you exercise in a week, the length of your workouts and the intensity of those workouts. You also need to program in your height, weight and gender before it starts measuring.

If you're a person who wants more detail about how healthy you are than what a scale will give you, the Omron Body Fat Analyzer is a tool you should consider buying.

Your Doctor will most likely have your blood pressure checked at each visit but if it is not checked correctly, the reading is of no value. You can also purchase a blood pressure monitor at your local pharmacy, make sure you know how to use it correctly. Consider the following tips when checking your own blood pressure or having it checked.

A blood pressure cuff that is too wide can cause a false low reading.

A blood pressure cuff that is too narrow can cause a false high reading.

A blood pressure cuff wrapped too loosely can cause a false high reading.

A blood pressure cuff that is deflated too slowly can lead to a false high diastolic (resting rate/bottom number).

A blood pressure cuff that is deflated too quickly can lead to a false low systolic (beating rate/top number) and a false diastolic high (resting rate/bottom number).

Blood pressure checked with the arm unsupported can lead to a false high reading.

Blood pressure checked with the arm above the heart can lead to a false low reading.

Blood pressure checked with the feet crossed while seated can lead to a false high reading.

Systolic blood pressure (SBP) is the force in the arteries when the heart contracts while diastolic blood pressure (DBP) is the force at rest. The systolic blood pressure will be recorded as the top number and the diastolic blood pressure will be recorded as the bottom number.

The American Heart Association reports normal blood pressure is 120/80. Pre-hypertension is considered to be SBP of 120-139 or DBP of 80-89, Hypertension stage one is SBP of 140-159 or DBP of 90-99, Hypertension stage two is SBP above 160 or DBP above 100.

One high blood pressure reading is not enough to diagnose you with high blood pressure but it does mean you should monitor it more frequently. If you do have a high blood pressure reading your Doctor should be alerted and will advise you how often to monitor it. If you have normal blood pressure and no other risk factors, your blood pressure should be checked at least every two years.

High blood pressure is often referred to as the silent killer, as many as 33% of Americans have it yet one third of those do not even know it. There are virtually no symptoms to high blood pressure yet it is deadly and if left uncontrolled it can lead to; heart attack, stroke, heart failure and more. Don't be a grim statistic, get your blood pressure checked today.

As always, check with your Doctor before utilizing any and all medical advice.

The most satisfying part is the fact that the features offered more than justify the expense incurred in purchasing the device. The two nicest pocket models are the HJ 112 and the HJ 720ITC.
